How Much Video Can be Stored on an Alarm.com SVR?

If you have alarm.com video cameras or are interested in getting some, you will want to know how the recording works, and part of that will lead you to the question of how much video can be stored on an Alarm.com SVR.

By default when you add an Alarm.com camera you have smart clips that can record in the cloud. They can record a smart clip when a person is detected in the specified area and it will usually be around 60 seconds. After the clip is recorded, there will be a 30-60 second pause between when a new clip will start. ( you can set this to between 30 seconds and 15 minutes when creating a recording rule).

If you want to make sure you do not miss anything in that pause time, or if you want to have longer clips of events, you will want to add 24/7 recording to your alarm.com service. There are two ways to do this. The first is to add an SD card to each camera. The second is to add an SVR to the same network as the cameras. The SVR will give you more freedom to have footage for longer days since you can put 2TB-16TB hard drives inside of them.

So back to the original question, how much video can you store on an SVR? Well, it depends on the hard drive, the number of cameras, and if you are recording with 720P or 1080P. But here is a table showing the differences. It is showing how long a certain number of cameras will last if recorded at 1080P with these size hard drives. (Keep in mind you could have up to 2 3.5″HDD SATA 6Gb/s, 16TB each for a total of 32TB if you wanted to remove the hard drive the SVR comes with and replace it with 2 16TB ones.)
