Alarm.com Releases their New 8ch SVR

Alarm.com finally released their new 8-channel SVR  that replaced the previous 8ch SVR that they had discontinued a few years ago. For the last few years the only 24/7 recorder you could get was the several different 16ch SVRs.

Alarm.com smart Wi-Fi Cameras are great. One of the only issues people have is that they do not record 24/7. (they record smart clips on the cloud) So if you are wanting 24/7 recording you will want to either get an SVR (local hard drive device) or put an SD Card inside of each camera. Up until now, the only SVRs were capable of up to 16 cameras and priced higher than most home owners and small business owners might want to spend. This new 8ch SVR will allow those people the opportunity to add a hard drive and/or HDMI output at a fraction of the cost.

The Alarm.com 8-Channel SVR is a commercial-grade, cloud-connected storage solution for 24/7 continuous local recording. Designed to work seamlessly with the Alarm.com video service, the Stream Video Recorder allows you to associate up to 8 video cameras and view live and recorded video from the customer app or customer website. Supporting for 1 or 2TB external hard drives and users can watch footage via live view, playback, and clip export.

It is compatible with just about every Alarm.com camera that is available on the market today. The Wi-Fi ones and the PoE ones. Which is good because the Indoor Wi-Fi camera was not compatible with the larger SVRs but it is with this one.

Right now it is only available in 1TB or 2TB so I can see that as the only downside. If you want to have more than 9 days of recording with 8 cameras at 1080P, there are plenty of options with the other 16ch SVRs for those people.

Key Features:

The Alarm.com being a security accelerator, the 8-Channel SVR can support a multitude of needs with regard to security. Here are some of its standout features:

  • Local Video Network: With two Ethernet ports, the SVR allows for a multi-input switch on one port and Ethernet on the other. This setup can create a video network with up to eight Power over Ethernet (PoE) cameras.
  • Interactive Smart View: Accessible via the customer website and mobile app, the Smart View Player enables easy review of footage, identification of key events, and downloading of clips.
  • USB 3.0 Port: This port facilitates quick downloads of video clips using a USB flash drive.
  • HDMI Ports: Two HDMI ports allow for local viewing through a TV or monitor.
  • Storage Capacity: The SVR supports 1TB and 2TB hard disk drives, providing ample storage for continuous recording.

Compatible Cameras:

The new 8ch SVR is compatible with nearly all the PoE and Wi-Fi Cameras. (maybe not the old ones that arent available anymore)

Third-party PoE cameras (ONVIF S & VAPIX)

  • Important: The customer account will need a Commercial Video service package with the Third Party Cameras add-on to utilize third-party cameras.
