How Does Alarm Monitoring Work?
The short answer is that when the alarm goes off, the monitoring station immediately contacts the home or business owner at 1-2 phone numbers and then notifies the authorities if they don’t get an answer with the correct password on the account. Monitoring now days is mostly done through cellular monitoring and moving away from doing it through over a POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) Landline Phone.
When the alarm goes off it sends the signal to the monitoring station. Once received, they will call your 2 phone numbers provided to ensure validity, if so they will then send dispatch. If you are unable to answer and they send the police you may be charged a fine if it is a false alarm.
You can arm the monitoring system remotely, through a a provided key fob, a smart phone, or a tablet. In the event of a power outage, the system has a backup battery. For more information on monitoring check out our blog post here!
