23 Sep Crime Statistics Over Time For San Diego
Police departments gauge how well their department is doing based on trends in crime statistics and population. If they are going up, that’s a good indicator that a change needs to be made, but if they’re going down, that’s a sign of success in the department. Crime trends can also be used by the residents to determine their safety risk of living in a particular city. This information can be used to better evaluate if you should buy a home security system for your home in San Diego.
Here are some crime statistics over time for San Diego.

Crimes such as murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault are all considered major crimes. In the early 90’s major crime rates peaked with 167 murders in 1991 and 485 rapes during 1992. Since those years the major crime rates have been decreasing slowly. Here were the statistics for last year (2013):

A Word On Population
When you’re looking at crime statistics, it’s important to pay attention to the population dips and peaks. When there is a higher population there is a bigger risk for crime. Likewise, a smaller population typically results in a smaller crime rate. The population of San Diego is steadily increasing but the crime rates aren’t. This is a good sign because it means that the crime rate is under control.
However, a controlled crime rate doesn’t mean you can guarantee that your home won’t be broken into or your car won’t be stolen from your front yard. But we can promise you that with a home security system installed in your San Diego home, burglars and thieves will think twice before intruding into your home and property.
