ADT Offers $25,000 Reward For Fraudulent Security Salespeople

ADT sales people

You hear a knock on the door, and the next thing you know there is a salesman sitting with you at your kitchen table telling you all the reasons that you have to get your security system upgraded. There is no need to be ashamed if you have experienced this scenario a time or two. Salesmen can be pushy, and you have probably felt that you didn’t want to be rude to someone who is just trying to do their job. These sales pitches, however, can sometimes be the result of company schemes—and caution needs to be taken.

Recently, security system companies have come up with a new way to get your money out of your bank and into theirs. ADT customers have been told by competing company’s sales people that their system is no longer working or that ADT is going out of business, so the customers need to switch providers. Many other false statements have been used to persuade current ADT customers to switch providers. Many of these salespeople have been trained by their company to do whatever they have to do to get the customer to switch systems.

ADT is tired of this scam and receiving the blame for the fraudulent sales people. The company wants to put the criminals behind bars, so they are offering $25,000 to anyone that can catch one of these salespeople on camera. To receive the reward, the evidence must result in the successful prosecution of the at-fault company and the employee.

ADT also issued these tips to help customers, and anyone in general, from being victimized by security scammers.

  • Ask for photo identification and/or a business card of who is at your door
  • Call your current security company to confirm what you’re being told
  • Don’t be pressured into agreeing to new equipment or signing a contract
  • Request literature be left behind so you can study it before taking action

To earn the reward, you must meet the following conditions:

  • Such evidence is provided to ADT on or before August 31, 2014.
  • Such evidence is obtained lawfully and is admissible in court.
  • The same or substantially similar evidence has not been previously provided to ADT.
  • ADT, acting in its sole discretion, institutes litigation based upon such evidence.
  • That litigation leads to a judgment or settlement resulting in the payment of a monetary award to ADT.

Details of the award offer and instructions about how to submit evidence can be found on ADT’s official website here.
